TRA Achieves Three ISO Certificates in Business Continuity, Quality Management and Environmental Management

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced today achieving three certificates from the International Standardization Organization ‘ISO’, in the areas of business continuity, quality management system and environmental management system. H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, TRA Director General, received the certificates during a special meeting with Mr. Ahmad AlKhatib, General Manager of the British Standards Institute in the Middle East, in TRA’s office.

The TRA’s ISO certification in Business Continuity (ISO 22301:2013) confirms the readiness of the ICT sector to respond to all emergencies, crises and natural disasters that may occur, as well as the ability of the sector to ensure appropriate coverage for all customers in such circumstances. TRA has also been able to obtain the new version of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001: 2015), which confirms the compatibility of all procedures, plans and strategic projects implemented by TRA with the International standards in this field. Additionally, it has obtained the certificate of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001: 2015) on global standards for the preservation of the environment in the buildings and facilities of TRA as well as its internal environment, in addition to the best use of available resources.

In this context, H.E. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, said: ‘ISO Certification is an expression of all the joint efforts of all department and teams at TRA level to implement best practices and international standards adopted by the International Standardization Organization. I would like to emphasize that we are working within a clear national strategy that affirms the achievement of leading positions in all the global competitiveness indicators, which enhances the UAE’s attractive position in the sector of business and investment.’

H.E. Al Mansoori added: ‘In terms of certification of telecom sector business continuity in disasters, it is extremely important to have an advanced infrastructure that is capable of meeting the needs of customers in different circumstances. This is in line with the smart cities strategy, of which the ICT sector is a main pillar.’

In turn, Mr. Ahmad AlKhatib said: “At BSI, we are committed to helping an organization adopt excellent practices. By implementing multiple standards, TRA has demonstrated and embedded a process-based approach into their organization, helping them to increase their resilience.
